Continuous Computing Announces Trillium LTE Software Support for Cavium Networks OCTEON™ II Multicore MIPS64 Processor

Trillium LTE Protocol Software Delivers Enhanced Control, Data, Services Plane Performance and Increased Flexibility on OCTEON II Processors


SAN DIEGO - April 14, 2009
– Continuous Computing®, the only company deploying uniquely architected systems comprised of telecom platforms and Trillium® software, today announced support for OCTEON™ II Processors from Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless, video, and security applications. The company also announced that it is now a Cavium PACE (Partnership to Accelerate Customer End-solutions) member, which provides Continuous Computing with the opportunity to optimize its Trillium Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol software to support the OCTEON II architecture, thereby offering Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) with immediate solutions that support high-performance LTE network infrastructure.

Trillium LTE software operating on OCTEON II processors will provide products that can support the complete range of LTE network elements, from LTE Base Stations (eNodeBs) to Evolved Packet Core (EPC) devices, including Mobility Management Entity (MME), Serving Gateway (SGW), Packet Data Network (PDN) Gateway, and Evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG). Trillium LTE software – including Diameter, S1-AP, eGTP, GTP, MAC, PDCP, RLC, RRC, and X2-AP – supports LTE femtocells, macro/pico LTE base stations, and each of the network elements within the EPC. All Trillium LTE protocols are compliant with the latest 3GPP-defined LTE specifications and are multi-threaded for optimized performance on multi-core processors.

The recently-announced Cavium Networks next generation OCTEON II Internet Application Processor (IAP) family is designed for the next generation of Hypernetworks serving service provider, access, data center, and enterprise markets which require support for converged voice, video, and data. The OCTEON II target applications include equipment for 3G, LTE, and wireless LAN, among others. The OCTEON II family integrates 1 to 32 MIPS64 cores, up to 75 Application Acceleration Engines for quality of service, packet processing, TCP, compression, encryption, , up to 400Gbps of DDR3 memory bandwidth, and up to 100Gbps of network connectivity while consuming only 2W to 60W across the entire family.
