– Fulcrum Microsystems, Inc., a leading provider of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) switch chips for use in converged data center fabrics, cloud networking, and telecom fabric applications, today announced support for the OCTEON II processors from Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless, video and security applications.
As a Cavium PACE (Partnership to Accelerate Customer End-solutions) member, Fulcrum is partnering with Cavium to deliver high-performance and highly-scalable application-aware 10GbE fabric solutions. The company’s FocalPoint 10GbE switch chip family delivers 200 nanoseconds (ns) of switching latency – a 10X improvement over alternative solutions. This industry-leading latency performance combined with comprehensive congestion management provides support for truly lossless Ethernet fabrics. Fulcrum’s high port density, power efficiency and scalability are further enhanced with the use of Cavium’s OCTEON II Processor Family. With integrated 10GbE interfaces and a high-performance multi-core processor architecture, the new Cavium OCTEON II Processor Family adds a dimension of programmability and application awareness that was previously unachievable.
